I’ve been devoting my Thursday posts during #BlogElul to #ThrowbackThursday, an Instagram that’s spread to other social media which gives folks an excuse to post really old pictures of themselves.  Within this projects, it’s been a fun and interesting way to consider how my past experience has shaped my current reflections.

It’s amazing to me how a place can change us

Or an experience apart from the familiar places–a long weekend

or a a year or two

or one piece of a much longer time.

Along the way, we meet people who help us get to the next step

Some of these will stay in our lives, others will not, and others we might lose for a while, but then find each other again

And sometimes again and again.  And through all that, we’ll realize that it isn’t so much that we’ve changed, but that each of these places, these experiences, these people have helped us to become closer to the people that we truly are.  Our most authentic selves.

And when we have one of those moments, when we take a big step along our journey, a step in which we get there with another person, accomplish something that gets us closer to us, then that’s cause for celebration
